Ice Castle Vermont

February 25, 2015
It all started in Brents backyard.

In order to understand the ice castle, there are a couple things you need to know about Brent, the creator of the Ice Castle.  You need to know that Brent is an artistic genius and an amazing, dedicated dad.  The combination of these delightful traits mixed with moving his family from California to Utah combined with a dash of stir-crazy cabin fever were the ingredients that made up the  beginnings of the ice castles. When Brent moved his young family from California to Utah they wanted to do something exciting in the new found cold weather.  So of course, like any dedicated father, Brent went to work on an ice rink in the back yard….but not just any old ice rink.  This first-time ice rink came complete with a 20′ slide, an ice cave, and a castle like tower reaching 20° into Utah’s rocky mountain sky.  His children affectionately called it the “Ice Castle.” Each completed Ice Castle gives you 20,000,000 pounds of ice to explore – walk, squeeze, slide, and crawl  (the squeeze, slide, and crawl are optional!)

There are 4 of these sites located across the country, but you can see the Ice Castles for yourself in Vermont, located at the Sun Bowl Lodge at Stratton Mountain Resort!

Wear Boots! Every bit of the Ice Castle is made of ice and snow and this includes the floor. We crush the ice and snow on the floor to make a walking surface that is like crushed gravel but made of snow and ice. Walking through it is definitely best in boots.  Dress for the cold!  The Ice Castle is outside. So the temps in the Ice Castle are the same as outside.  Buy Tickets before you arrive.  When you buy your tickets online we’ll send you an email with a unique QR code. We can scan the code off your phone, the easiest. Or if you want to print it out, that works as well.

So dress warm and don’t forget your Camera!

Ice Castles VT is open 7 days a week through March 7th, and it is recommended that you visit after dark to see the spectacular glowing colors on the ice. *Dates are weather dependent and may change.
