An Xbox theme birthday party!

By Diana P, Publisher for Macaroni Kid Chicopee-Holyoke November 21, 2018

Every year I look forward to my children's birthdays so I can plan their birthday party. As my oldest son gets older he no longer wants the character themed parties. So I ran into a little challenge and had to become a little more creative, since he was now becoming a preteen. For his 12th birthday I had told him he was not going to have a party (At least not one he was aware of) I decided to throw a surprise Xbox birthday party.

Party plan consist of:

Invitations: I printed out photos of controllers on cardstock paper which I glued on a corner and it allowed the invitations to flip open. Inside I wrote the party details!

Decorations: Everything was black and green. We had black and green plates and cups, a black table cover for the snack table, and black and green banner, napkins and balloons. The green banner I bought from Michaels Store and I had white sticky letters left over from my baby's first birthday. So I colored the letters black and stuck them to the banner to read LEVEL 12. The photo prop frame I made was the perfect prop. I bought a black foam board and cut out a big square. I glued Xbox logos and controllers to the frame. And used left over sticky letters and wrote out the birthday boys name.

Favors: I printed out Xbox logos and glued them on to green paper bags. I stuffed the bags with black tissue paper. Inside the goodie bags were green silly string, glow sticks, bags of popcorn (my sons favorite snack) and fun candy. The bags of popcorn were tied on with string and gift tags I made out of cardstock and glued Xbox logos on to them.

Snacks: We had chips and dip, popcorn, green M&M's, green gumballs and green skittles. I made chocolate covered pretzel rods and cupcakes. The cupcake toppers were cutout Xbox logos which I glued together to toothpicks. And the cupcakes sat on top of an old Xbox console! I made and printed a sign to place on the snack table that read GAMERS POWER-UP STATION. We had an Oreo ice cream cake (my sons favorite cake) that we took out the fridge when we sang Happy Birthday.

Games: This was the easiest party to plan games for. The kids played Xbox video games! The children sat in the living room playing tournament games and having a blast. I made and printed out a sign that I placed below the tv that read STAY CALM AND GAME ON

Attire: The birthday boy wore a handmade t-shirt made by ErinsHandcraftedCrea that read LEVEL 12 on the back which he was given when he arrived. When my son arrived with his grandparents he was blown away, he never saw this surprise coming.

Stay tune for some more fun birthday ideas.
